Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Plant Keeps Up With Global Safety Standards

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, June 24, 2019. The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) representatives recently completed their tech support mission (with a focus on a strong nuclear safety culture) at Rosatom’s Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Plant.
According to the nuclear plant’s Information & PR Department, the mission was aimed at experience- and expertise-sharing and at enhancing the plant’s staff’s professional skills with the best global practices as the model.
‘Any assessment we get from the international experts helps us improve and develop our competencies,’ says the plant’s director Ivan Sidorov.
Conrad Dubé, the Technical Support Missions Project Manager at WANO Paris Centre, thanked the plant’s management for the invitation to complete their safety culture campaign there.
The expert team comprised the representatives of WANO, Rosenergoatom, and a number of other Russian and international companies, including the European Union Agency for Railways (ERA). Even though the agency operates outside of the nuclear sector, the ERA still relies very heavily on the safety culture principles.
A preliminary report got prepared on the results of the mission; the final paper will be ready in one month’s time. Experts’ recommendations are meant to help Beloyarskaya Nuclear Power Plant to keep improving its safety culture and thus ensure reliable and safe operation.
