UBRD: Customers Spend Thrice as Much on Flowers on International Women’s Day

15 March 2019 (11:00)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, March 15, 2019. The Ural Bank for Reconstruction & Development (UBRD) looked into its customers’ spending behavior on March 4-10, 2019, comparing it with people’s debit and credit card spending within a regular week (January 21-27), the bank’s press service reports.

The bank’s analysts looked into the ways their customers spent money in Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Perm, Saint Petersburg, Tyumen, Ufa, and Chelyabinsk. It turns out people spent RUB 15.2 million on flowers, cosmetics, jewelry, cards, balloons, and gift wrapping in the International Women’s Day week (compared with only RUB 7.1 million in a regular week).

Cosmetics proved by far the most popular gift, with RUB 8.1 million spent on this product category. Jewelry (RUB 4 million) came next, followed by flowers (RUB 2.6 million) and gift wrapping, air balloons, and cards (RUB 380,000).

As for the spending dynamics within each product category, it appears the amount of money customers directed to buying flowers increased the most: people spent thrice as much money on flowers on March 4-10 as they do in a regular week.

The amount of money spent on cosmetics increased by 2.5 times; the amount of money spent on jewelry increased depending on a particular location: this spending category grew twice as big in Yekaterinburg and grew twice as small in Kazan, Perm, and Tyumen. The amount of money directed to paying for gift wrapping, balloons, and cards has remained more or less the same, with only a drop (by as much as three times) in Chelyabinsk.
