MMK Saves RUB 500m in Energy Costs in 2018

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, March 7, 2019. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) saved around RUB 500 million last year through a series of energy efficiency programs, MMK’s Information & PR Department reports.
One such program has to do with processing and introduction of improvement proposals relating to energy efficiency. In 2016, the plant launched Ideas Management unit within its Energy Management Platform app. This made handling energy efficiency proposals more productive and made the entire process of submitting a proposal and having it launched much faster. 680 improvement proposals got submitted through the app last year; 139 proposals were introduced in the production process, with RUB 73.25 million in resulting annual savings.
‘The platform was originally only meant for energy efficiency proposals, but, since it proved so useful, other categories got added to the platform in 2017, for example, resource savings, the environment, job safety, industrial safety, and so on,’ the Department says.
Last year, the plant added the data from earlier systems into the platform, creating an archive of improvement proposals submitted and launched at the plant. There are now over 19,000 proposals in the system altogether. Besides, Ideas Management unit was gradually introduced at MMK Group’s member enterprises in 2017-2018. The Group is now working to complete the platform with data from its Turkey-based asset MMK Metalurji.
The Ideas Management unit has made submitting improvement proposals electronically very doable. As a result, last year the company saved RUB 350 million through seventeen baby capex projects alone.
