UrBC, Magnitogorsk, February 7, 2019. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) supplied nearly 550,000,000 kg of metal goods to customers in the car-making industry last year; so far, this has been the best result the company’s ever achieved, MMK’s Information & PR Department reports.

The plant supplied 22,000,000 kg more goods to customers in 2018 compared with the year 2017. Car manufacturers have long been MMK’s top priority partners, so the company has been investing in automobile body sheet production facilities as part of the national import substitution program for many years now.

MMK is the leading ferrous metal goods supplier for car factories and spare parts manufacturers on the national market now. The plant sells cold-rolled and hot-rolled, zinc-coated goods to all the major Russian businesses in the sector, including AvtoVAZ, KamAZ, GAZ, and UAZ. The company also supplies its produce to a number of international carmakers with factories based in Russia (up 28% in 2018 on the year 2017). Last year, MMK also started making more than 500 new product types based on car manufacturers’ demands. The plant is also gradually getting its produce certified and accepted by 100% of car manufacturers with local factories.

MMK and its Turkish partners also set up OOO MMK Coşkunöz Alabuga, a new car part center, in Tatarstan, Russia, last May. The center makes up to 60,000,000 kg of steel stamps and other car part components a year. The new division helped improve MMK’s share of the automobile body sheet market in the part of Russia where the number of automakers operating their factories is at its largest.
