MMK Refractory Goods Department Turns 87

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, July 25, 2018. MMK Group’s OOO Ogneupor, the refractory goods manufacturer, turns eighty-seven this month.

According to MMK press service, one of Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works’ first production departments got launched on July 17, 1931. This was the day the first production line took off at the chamotte shop.

OOO Ogneupor is now one of Russia’s leading refractory goods producer: the company is No. 3 on the national chamotte refractory applications market and No. 2 on the periclase-carbonaceous refractory goods market. The plant makes over 12,000,000 kg of goods a month, with 250 different product varieties. MMK Group’s member enterprises, UC RUSAL, Rosneft, ArcelorMittal Temirtau, and ERG are now among the company’s key customers.

The plant has been investing in large-scale reconstruction projects and launched new facilities in the last few years. For one, Ogneupor now relies on new sludge decantation technology to use the sludge that is a by-product of air filtering at the chamotte shop for re-burning; this means no excess sludge needs to be disposed of, which is quite good for the environment.
