MegaFon: Yekaterinburg Mobile Traffic Doubles For TV Tower Demolition
27 March 2018 (09:25)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, March 27, 2018. Internet traffic doubled against the usual Saturday amount in downtown Yekaterinburg early in the morning on March 24, 2018, MegaFon’s press service reports.
‘The city’s TV tower turned into the most coveted photo shooting spot and a filming location: shots of how the workers prepared to demolish the tower and how they had it pulled down, and videos of the end result filled all social networks and messengers,’ the press service says.
Not only Yekaterinburg residents but also people from Sverdlovsk Region’s smaller towns such as Sukhoi Log, Berezovsky, Pervouralsk, Nizhniy Tagil, Novouralsk, and Kamensk-Uralsky wanted to witness the epic event.
Spots next to Greenwich Mall, Square 1905, and Dekabristov St, Chapayev St, Kuibyshev St, and Rosa Luxemburg St proved the most popular watching sites. According to MegaFon, it was there that the volume of data transfer was at its highest. Interestingly, viewers were apparently not invested in talking on the phone, as the amount of voice traffic actually went down.
Thousand of local filled their social network accounts with content hash-tagged #моябашня and #телебашняекб. As is clear from user statistics, MegaFon’s subscribers tended to mostly use Instagram and Facebook for posting the photos and videos they took of the demolition process; as for messenger apps, WhatsApp proved their No.1 content-sharing choice.
