UrBC, Chelyabinsk, December 25, 2017. More than twenty mayors and heads of city councils from Chelyabinsk Oblast went on a tour of Russian Copper Company Group’s Karabashmed in Karabash. The visitors also looked at the new sports facility Metallurg the company put up and talked to the plant’s long-service employees who practice at the Active Longevity Sports Club, the company’s press service reports.

Metallurg looks very impressive. The gym is particularly well-equipped. Karabash used to be seen as an economically depressed town, but now we can say with confidence that you don’t find a gym like this in an economically depressed town!’ Chair of Ashinsky District Deputy Assembly Vyacheslav Martynov said.

The delegates also went to some of Karabashmed’s production departments and were told about the metallurgical department’s upgrades, the oxygen plants’ performance, the plant’s gas-filtering system, and the supper acid production department. They also learned about the environmental protection steps the company took. The visitors could see for themselves how efficient these steps were, as the snow on the plant’s premieres looked very white.

Karabashmed joined Russian Copper Company in 2004. The former has directed over RUR 18bn to upgrading the plant and reducing one of Russia’s oldest metallurgical enterprises’ environmental impact. As a result, the overall amount of emissions has gone down by more than twenty times since the year 2000.
