UrBC, Magnitogorsk, November 17, 2017. A new Continuous Hot-Dip Galvanizing Unit 3 got launched at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) in the summer, which meant the company could now supply more metal to carmakers, MMK Information, PR & Advertising Department refers to Anton Antonov from the plant’s Science & Technology Center as saying.
According to Antonov, MMK is currently one of Russia’s leading automobile body sheet makers. The plant remains the market leader thanks to meeting its customers’ increasingly challenging sheet quality requirements.
MMK metal enjoys demand with such Russian carmakers as AvtoVAZ, GAZ, UAZ, KamAZ, and the international manufacturers such as Ford, Volkswagen, Renault, and Nissan, the global giants that operate factories in Russia.
MMK uploaded an electronic catalogue on the company website to provide information on the various kinds of sheets it makes, the amount of oil used for lubrication, and the sheet surface quality and microstructure.
‘In order to stay competitive, we must focus on new steel types. For one, MMK has a long-term program for getting its rolled metal goods certified by Russian and foreign car manufacturers, so this year, we started using our Sheet Rolling Department 11 (the one that houses MMK’s newest cold-roll facility) to make highly durable duplex steels with strength grade DP450 to DP1000. The steels get supplied to the leading national carmakers. We also tried making rolled metal goods from multiphase alloys (strength grade: СP600 or СP800),’ the plant says.
