UrBC, Magnitogorsk, September 15, 2017. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) decided to direct money to planting trees and shrubs around seventy schools and kindergartens in Magnitogorsk, MMK Information, PR & Advertising Department reports.
‘This is one of the Year of the Environment initiatives that is carried out in cooperation with the town council. Our Environmental Protection and Environmental Control Department drew up a list of schools and pre-school establishments that need more green. These are mostly Chelyabinsk Region-based schools on our last year’s program, which involved cutting down dead, dry, and damaged trees. This year, young ash trees and Norway maples will be planted in school yards instead,’ the press service says.
‘The planting process will depend on the weather, as schoolchildren, their parents, MMK representatives, Magnitogorsk Legislative Assembly deputies, and all the locals are invited to take part.
‘MMK will allocate some 1.5m RUR for the purpose. The money will be used to buy nursery plants. To make sure schools and kindergartens don’t have to send any more money on this, another 600,000 RUR will be allocated for watering in the fall and spring/summer 2018. Besides, the town council authorities will stay in control of the plants,’ says MMK Urban Development Group’s Senior Manager Andrei Glazyrin.
