27 July 2017 (13:44)
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, July 27, 2017. Sinara Group’s Sinara Development, the general contractor for the reconstruction of Yekaterinburg Stadium in time for the World Cup 2018, fully completed the construction of the stadium roof, the company press service reports.
The new roof rests on eight pylons 45.5 meters high. The structure’s total area comes to nearly 28,000 m2. The metal frame is covered with steel sheets and an elastic membrane coating made of enhanced-durability, light-absorbing polymeric tent material.
This combination of roofing materials will protect visitors to the stadium both from rain or snow and from the bright sunshine to ensure a great time on the site. The roof is painted white on the inside and weighs slightly over 6,000,000 kg.
According to Sinara Development’s Director-General Timur Ufimtsev, the roof is a bit unusual in that it is made concave, with an ultra-modern, no-pump storm drain system. Drain systems like this are only starting to gain popularity in Russia at the moment. Besides, the roof is fitted with a special roof and pylon monitoring system, with appliances to track their condition online.
