27 July 2017 (13:43)

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, July 27, 2017. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) came first in the national rating of zinc-coated and paint-coated rolled goods manufacturers. The rating of Russia’s best ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgical businesses for the first half of the year was carried in the latest issue of Metallosnabzheniye I Sbyt magazine.

According to MMK’s Information & PR Administration, the plant was No.1 on this rating last year as well.

‘This company remains the leading coated rolled goods producer thanks to MMK’s ongoing efforts to increase the share of high value-added products it makes. The plant has launched some up-to-date, highly productive facilities in the last fifteen years that are used for making zinc-coated and polymeric-coated goods. Hot-Dip Continuous Galvanizing Unit 3 was launched on the eve of Metallurgist’s Day in mid-July. The machine’s capacity comes to 360,000,000 kg of zinc-coated products a year, so its launch is expected to raise MMK’s overall zinc-coated products output by 20%,’ the Administration says.

Prior to this latest launch, the plant built two similar units in 2002 and 2008 with the capacity of 500,000,000 kg and 450,000,000 kg of rolled goods a year, respectively. In 2012, a new extension to the plant’s cold-roll unit (comprising a continuous galvanizing unit and a continuous annealing/galvanizing aggregate with the capacity of 450,000,000 kg and 250,000,000 kg of goods a year, respectively) was launched as well. Finally, the plant operates two polymeric-coating units with the capacity of 200,000,000 kg of goods a year each.
