MegaFon to Compensate Users for Connection Failure

24 May 2017 (13:53)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, May 24, 2017. The telecommunications provider MegaFon’s subscribers based in Moscow, Volga Region, and Central Federal District will get compensations for the total connection failure on May 19, MegaFon Ural’s press service reports.

‘As for the Urals, both voice and mobile Internet connection services were available as usual, both incoming and outgoing calls and data transfer remained stable in 3G, 4G, and LTE-Advanced networks. These were the users in Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, Kazan, Ufa, and a number of other cites that had some trouble with MegaFon that day,’ the press service says.

The users involved will be sent a text message asking them to decide on the way they would like to be compensated: 1) 50 minutes of voice calls and 1Gb of Internet traffic; 2) 2Gb of Internet traffic; 3) a pre-paid movie from MegaFon.TV video library.

The connection failure was caused by a software problem; the software in question was responsible for ensuring mobile communication services to a number of Russian federal constituencies. All the reparatory jobs had been completed by the end of May 19 and the connection restored. This is the first large-scale emergency MegaFon has ever had, so the company is taking all the steps necessary to make sure this is the last one.
