UBRD: Customers Spend 936m RUR on New Year’s Shopping

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, February 2, 2017. The Ural Bank for Reconstruction & Development’s customers spent over 936m RUR on season’s shopping on December 15-31, 2016, which is comparable with the figures for December 2015.

‘However, last year’s figures were also 10% below those for the December 2014. Also, UBRD debit card holders spent 13.5m RUR on beauty industry services, which was nearly 50% less than in December 2015,’ the bank’s press service reports.

The amount of money spent at restaurants and cafes (176.5m RUR) went down by 10%, that directed to buying clothing and footwear items (176m RUR) went down by 13%. At the same time, cardholders spent more money on drugstore items (50m RUR, +6% on December 2015) and supermarket shopping (455m RUR, +10% on a year earlier).

The bank’s private customers directed 276m RUR to paying for goods and services in the first week of 2017, which was 5% less than in 2016 and 20% than in early January 2015. Interestingly, the amount of money spent within the entertainment sector (movie theaters in particular) went up.

Based on the bank’s data, the UBRD customers went to see new movies more often in the winter break of 2017 than in early January 2016: the number of tickets sold rose by 30%, that of purchase and sale transactions increased by 50%. All in all, people spent 2.7m RUR on movie tickets.
