MMK Wins Import Substitution Prize

11 November 2016 (15:17)

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, November 11, 2016. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) won the national Priority 2016 Prize in Metallurgy, the company’s press service reports.

The panel of judges decided MMK deserved this great prize for the development and production of highly durable, wear-resistant MAGSTRONG steels.

MMK’s MAGSTRONG steels are used for making hot-rolled metal sheets and ready metal goods that are fully comparable with their foreign counterparts. MAGSTRONG steels come as import substitution of foreign rolled metal sheets on the home market; their mechanical properties ensure the sheets are protected against abrasion, have increased impact elasticity and improved welding and thermal/mechanical treatment characteristics, and serve longer than their counterparts made of more conventional materials.

This, in its turn, increases the time between repairs and reduces the number of idle times; moreover, less steel is needed for the production purposes, which results in resource savings. MAGSTRONG steels can be used for making and repairing construction, mining, and other special-purpose vehicles, metal frameworks, and so on.
