Sverdlovsk Region: 43,000 kg of Sanctioned Foods Disposed

14 November 2016 (15:00)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, November 14, 2016. 43,000 kg of sanctioned foods had to be crushed and disposed of in Sverdlovsk Region in the nine months of the year (compared with 500 kg in the entire year 2015), Head of Rosselkhoznadzor’s Sverdlovsk Region division Igor Tukhbatov said at a press conference in Yekaterinburg.

Mostly, these were apples, pears, and Cabbage imported from (mainly) Poland and Turkey.
Also, some of the sanctioned items were first sent to Belarus and then imported to Russia as allegedly Byelorussian foods.

‘It turns out Belarus is no longer a land-locked country, judging by the amount of the fish they ‘export’. Moreover, some tropical fruits now grow there as well, whereas the amount of cheese produced there exceeds the amount of milk their cows can possibly produce. There’s simply no room for so many cows in the country,’ Tukhbatov said.

The food inspectors carried out ninety-four checks of logistics centers and warehouses all in all.
