Ural Airlines to Fly Tigress Lola To Crimea

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 24, 2016. Ural Airlines is taking the rescued tigress Lola from Yekaterinburg to Simferopol on its U6 2931 flight today; the animal was supposed to have been put to sleep due to illness but was cured by Chelyabinsk animal rights activists, the air carrier’s press service reports.

‘The airline provided a special plane with a heated and ventilated luggage section to ensure a safe and comfortable flight. It took us several days to get all things in order, as the consignor had to make a new cage that could fit into the luggage section,’ the press service says.

This is, in fact, not the first time Ural Airlines are dealing with transportation of undomesticated animals: the air carrier has flown tiger cubs, bears, and kangaroos to Russian and European zoos before.

The lioness used to live in a tiny cage at a private zoo in Chelyabinsk Region. The owners wanted to put her to sleep when she fell ill, but local animal rights activists rescued and cured her. It was then decided that Lola should live in a place that resembles her natural habitat as much as possible. Taigan Safari Park in the Crimea was the first to agree to take her, and Lola is expected to stay there for good.
