Ural Vagon Zavod to Make Scale Test Cars

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, October 11, 2016. Ural Vagon Zavod Corporation’s Volchansky subsidiary is working to fulfill an order for twelve scale test railcars VPV-135K. The plant is currently getting the eighth car assembled, the company press service reports.

The corporation started making scale test cars in 2013 and has manufactured twenty-seven units since then, including the twenty-four cars that were produced at Volchansky. Twenty-one scale test cars are already in use at railways; Volchansky is planning to make at least ten more such makes next year as well.

‘The scale test car VPV-135K is meant for calibrating rail truck scales. The new make is expected to replace its worn-out counterparts that are currently being used at railways and should be done away with,’ the press service says.

It is reported the closed-top, six-axle railcar with a full metal body and fortified frame differs from its regular counterparts in a few design parameters. The new design provides special space for measuring equipment used for checking rail truck scales in the 200kg to 100,000 kg range. The scale test car’s capacity stands at 89,100 kg thanks to two serially produced three-axle bogies (each capable of supporting up to 22,000 kg worth of load) and their special braking systems.
