Koltsovo Airport: International Traffic Goes Down

16 August 2016 (14:00)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 16, 2016. The amount of international shipments Yekaterinburg’s Koltsovo International Airport handled this year has been going down since January, the airport’s press service reports.

‘Domestic cargo traffic, on the other hand, has been increasing noticeably. The airport used to have more international cargo earlier, but now domestic consignments prevail. This year so far, we dealt with more than 7,757,000 kg of domestic cargo (up 73% one one year earlier) and 5,514,000 kg of international cargo (up 5.5%)’, the press service says.

The airport processed 13,271,000 kg of various shipments in January-July 2016 overall, which exceeds the figures for one year earlier by 36%. Most of the goods are forwarded to or from Moscow, Novosibirsk, Saint Petersburg, Dubai, Beijing, and Prague.

As for airmail, the airport handled over 2,000,000 kg of this in the seven months of the year, which is 80% more than one year earlier. Interestingly, the amount of national and international airmail has been nearly the same so far, while most letters and parcels get shipped to or from Yekaterinburg to or from Moscow and Harbin (each of the two cities is responsible for over 40% of all the airmail the airport handles).
