28 March 2016 (10:41)

UrBC, Yekaterinburg, March 28, 2016. Ural Locomotives (a joint venture run by Sinara Group and Siemens) won Russia’s Business Leaders Contest as the Best Import Substitution Project, the company press service reports.

The company was awarded for its successful launch of Lastochka (ES2G), Russia’s first high-speed electric train. The train was manufactured and certified in 2014 and was introduced at Moscow and Sverdlovsk Railways as soon as the following year.

The company produced twenty-three high-speed trains last year altogether, all of which were handed over to Russian Railways. This year, the first Lastochka Premium is expected to appear, based on the newest and most advanced Russian developments (including upper-level control and brake control systems and an internal environment control unit, all new to the industry). These new improvements are going to make the train production 80% local (compared with 62.4% localization in 2014).
