UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 7, 2015. Omsktransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) gave overhauls and upgrades to eighteen T 72B3 tanks in 2014-2015 to make them fit for competing in Tank Biathlon Championship.

Twelve out of these eighteen tanks are going to be used directly in the championship, while six more are set aside as the reserve.

Based on the results of the drawing procedure, the Russian national tank biathlon team hit the road on its red-colored tanks during the second round of the contest. The championship comprised several different stages: individual, sprint, pursuit, and relay races.

The T 72B3 tank is a repaired and upgraded version of the T 72B(T 72B1) one; the upgrades were part of the defense procurement program and resulted in improved combat performance. In fact, it was with the help of this very tank that the Russian military won the competition last year.

Thanks to Omsktransmash, the tank was fitted with Sosna-U (gunner's multi-channel stabilized sight), 2А46М-5 gun, 1А40-4 aim, and an automatic target tracker, all of which improved the tank's fire power several times. Special attention was paid to safety, the level of which is remarkable: the tank is fitted with in-built explosive reactive armor and NBC defense (fire suppression system).
