January 14, 2015. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) Mill 2000 has made 5,000,000,000 kg of goods since the moment it was launched, MMK reports.
Mill 2000 is located at the company’s Sheet-Rolling Department 11 and is primarily meant for making good quality cold-rolled and zinc-coated rolled sheets for internal and external parts of automobiles, for household appliances, and for building structures. The facility comprises a continuous etching and chlorohydric acid pickling line, a five-stand cold mill with the capacity of 2,100,000,000 kg a year, a continuous hot-dip galvanizing unit with the capacity of 450,000,000 kg a year, and a continuous annealing/hot-dip galvanizing unit with the capacity of 650,000,000 kg a year.
The launch of this up-to-date facility was an important step for MMK’s technical upgrades program. Mill 2000 and the continuous etching line were launched in 2011, the second section of the facility was launched a year later. Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the launching ceremony in person.
‘The launch of this mill is truly a great event for MMK as well as for Russia’s entire metallurgical and car-making industries,’ the President said.
The mill’s high quality produce, which is based on the most advanced and modern technologies, has been estimated very highly by Russian carmakers and foreign car manufactures with factories in Russia.
