August 20, 2014. Omsktransmash (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Corporation) coordinated a skills contest among its crane operators called The Best in Profession.
According to the corporation’s press service, eight workers who have already proved the best operators within their departments took part in the contest.
‘All of the contestants have at least three years’ experience, they have never violated workplace discipline regulations or the labor safety requirements. The difficulty of the theoretical and practical tasks corresponds to the fourth work category and the qualifications of a bridge crane operator. In addition to crane-operating skills, such a specialist has to be able to determine the mass and the gravity center of the goods handled, know the rules of lifting and moving the load around, and understand the principles of how the load-gripping devices work,’ the press service says.
Contestants had to lift a 200-kg load and perform several tasks at the height of 12 meters: move the load straight ahead, then turn it under a certain angle, carry the load over an obstacle, and move the load in a bank-to-bank reversal manner.
All of the bridge crane operators coped with their tasks, and Galina Ivanova from the foundry department, an operator with twenty years’ experience, was one of the best. She completed the tasks in two minutes and forty-five seconds and got the best score in the theoretical part.
The contest winners will be awarded money prizes.
