MMK becomes one of the world’s top steelmakers

June 16, 2014. The World Steel Association came up with its annual rating of the world’s largest steelmakers in 2013.

There are 50 companies on the WSA Top Steel-Producing Companies 2013 list. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK), with its more than 11.9m tons of steel produced last year, was given the 29th position in the rating, therefore becoming once again one of the world’s top thirty largest steelmakers. There are four Russian enterprises on the list of the top 50 manufacturers all in all, and Russia itself is the world’s fifth largest producer of steel, with output standing at 68.7m tons in 2013.

The World Steel Association was set up as the International Iron and Steel Institute in1967. It was renamed into World Steel Association, or WorldSteel, in 2008. The association is a non-profit organization that comprises some 170 major steelmakers from all over the world as its members. The association members are responsible for making roughly 85% of global steel output.
