April 17, 2014. Some modern machining centers with numeric program control – the UniSpeed-5 makes made in Germany - were installed at Shop 23 of Plant No. 9 (a member enterprise of Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation).

According to the corporation’s press service, the centers, each of which weighs 36 tons, were delivered in parts on special platforms. Upon delivery, the parts were taken inside through the gates with the help of a crane and hoisted to the installation site.

‘Given its considerable weight, the equipment could not be lifted with the help of bridge cranes, as they are simply not designed for weights this big; this is why the centers were installed with the help of a 50-ton automobile crane. The assembly and the start-up and commissioning jobs were performed by a team of German experts and an engineer provided by the manufacturer’s official dealer. The shop is already using similar centers, yet the new makes are fitted with a number of new functions: a laser system for measuring an instrument’s parameters, a two-channel anti-collision system, and some others. All of this machinery will unite into one line,’ the corporation reports.
