April 8, 2014. The number of industrial accidents amounted to 421 in 2013, which was 17% lower in 2013 compared with 2012, Governor of Sverdlovsk Region's Information Policies Department refers to the local division of State Labor Inspectorate as reporting.
According to the head of the inspectorate Nikolai Shedlovsky, workers in the building industry were mainly injured due to falling down from heights, vehicle accidents, getting hit by falling objects, and so on.
'If you look into industrial accidents, you can come to the conclusion that their number tends to go down,' Shedlovsky said.
He explained that over 13,500 cases of labor rights violations were detected in Sverdlovsk Region during checks, including 3,000 violations in the building industry. In 2007, the total number of labor rights violations registered in Sverdlovsk Region was 58,700.
Most of the violations had to do with employee training in the fields of labor protection, with pay, and with providing workers with protective gear. To eliminate these problems, state labor protection inspectors issued over 2,000 orders to employers, and more than 90% of those were complied with in due time. Nearly 1,400 building industry workers were suspended last year due to violations: failing to undergo training or internship or failing to prove their labor protection skills.
