UC RUSAL to freeze aluminum production at BAZ by end of year

November 26, 2013. United Company RUSAL is planning to freeze aluminum production at the 6th section of Bogoslovsky smelter (BAZ) in Krasnoturyinsk, Kommersant refers to the company’s press service as saying.
The electrolysis production is expected to be resumed ‘after the economic situation gets better’. At the moment, the high prime cost of metal production at BAZ ($2,100 per 1,000kg) makes aluminum production unprofitable, as the prime cost of aluminum is $1,700 per 1,000kg.
RUSAL froze the aluminum production at Ural smelter in Kamensk-Uralsky earlier, as well as cut back on aluminum production at a number of enterprises in the European part of Russia.
