June 25, 2013. The start-up and commissioning of two new MaXXturn 65 SMY Emco Maier program-controlled turning and machining units is about to be completed at Uralvagonzavod Corporation’s head plant. The Austria-manufactured units were purchased within the framework of the National Special Purpose Defense Sector Development Program for 2013-2020 and cost more than 34m RUR to get, Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation’s press service reports.

Under the preliminary estimates, the two new units could replace at least ten old single-spindle machines. The advantages of the new equipment are obvious: these MaXXturn 65 SMY units offer a complete part processing cycle and can perform up to 7 or 8 operations at a time. 12 tools can be inserted into the load magazine at one go, so, as a result, making new parts will take much less time compared with the older makes. The main thing, however, is that the quality of the goods produced will become several times better. The error limit is now measured in microns.

In addition to MaXXturn 65 SMY units, three grinding machines were introduced in the same department, and two of these have already been installed. This was also a part of the company’s production upgrades program that is now in full swing at Uralvagonzavod.
