Nearly 90% of Work and Travel USA Applicants Refused a Visa

18 April 2013 (10:08)

April 18, 2013. About 90% of those who applied for their Work and Travel USA visa to the Consulate (the interviews are held every Thursday starting March 14) were refused a visa. This amounts to 1,700 out of 2,000 applicants. Russian citizens thus lost over $1.5. The consulate does not offer any sound reasons for refusing the applicants, Association of Russian Tour Operators reports.

According to the tour operators’ estimates, the number of Russian college students’ rejected applications was also great last year: 35% to 40% of all the applications were actually turned down. However, this year the figure soared to 90%.

As for Yekaterinburg, InterSTUDY’s local representation says the visa situation is not looking very good at the moment.

‘The Work and Travel visa application rejection rate came to about 40% this year. However, this is exactly the same as last year, when the figure was the same. The Consul offers no comment on the reasons for refusing someone a visa, he is free to decide whether a visa should be issued or not,’ the company explains.
