More Economy Class Housing Gets Built in Yekaterinburg

1 March 2013 (14:38)

March 01, 2013. Focusing on the mass-market customer, that is, putting up more economy class apartment buildings, proved one of Yekaterinburg housing market’s most pronounced trends recently, the Ural Real Estate Chamber’s press service reports.

A very small share of frozen projects is another noticeable tendency. This share only comes to 5% of all the construction jobs at the moment; this amounts to only 105,000 sq m out of nearly 2m sq m worth of housing that is currently under construction at this or that stage.

In geographical terms, the building projects are distributed rather unevenly across the city. Most of the apartment buildings that are being put up at the moment (about 70%) are located in the southern parts of Yekaterinburg, so here the companies compete in terms of both location and quality. What is more, it is already clear that it is in this direction where the housing market will be developing over the next few years. At the same time, competition is still quite low in the other parts of the city, as only one or two buildings get built at a time. This imbalance is definitely disadvantageous for the northern parts of the city.
