More Energy Sector Workers Get Killed at Work in Sverdlovsk Region

January 18, 2013. In 2012, the number of serious industrial accidents was on the decrease in Sverdlovsk Region, says Sverdlovsk Region Government’s Press Service & Information Administration.

‘365 grave accidents occurred in the region last year compared with 394 accidents in 2011. The number of fatal accidents dropped by 11.2: there were 87 such cases last year against 98 cases a year earlier. The number of victims of fatal accidents at work declined by 13.2% last year: 99 workers were killed in 2012 and 114 workers were killed in 2011,’ Sverdlovsk Region Labor & Employment Department’s Director Dmitri Antonov announced at a regional government’s meeting.

Antonov said that the decrease in the number of fatal accidents’ victims amounted to 30% in the agricultural sector, to 9% in the mineral resource development sector, to 35% in the building industry sector, to 25% in the real estate segment, to 40% in the social welfare sector, and to 25% in the communal housing services, social services, and personal services segment. As for the processing industries, the number of people killed at work remained the same as in the year 2011. However, the number of victims actually rose in the energy sector.
