December 24, 2012. Maria Savinova, an alumna of Sputnik Sports Club, an organization sponsored by Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation, made it to the list of the top ten sports players of the year created by the Federation of Sports Reporters, the corporation’s press service reports.

Last year proved the most successful one in Savinova’s career so far. The gold medal she won in the 30th Summer Olympics in London was her main achievement: Savinova completed the 800-meter track with the world’s best season in that year: 1: 56.19, the press release says.

The year’s best sports players have been selected by sports reporters for nearly 60 years now. In 2012, not only reporters from Moscow and Saint Petersburg but also those from other parts of Russia took part in the voting. The Olympic achievements made a significant impact on the result of their decision-making.
