Sinara Pipe Plant Ships First Batches of Coiled Tubing

9 August 2012 (09:21)

Sinara Pipe Plant (a part of Pipe Metallurgical Company/TMK) shipped the first batches of its new product – coiled tubing – to Podolsk-based EnergoTechProm and Krasny Kotelschik Taganrog Boiler-Making Plant, the company’s press service reports.

The experimental site for making the coiled tubing meant for the nuclear industry, machine-building, and the fuel and energy complex, was launched at the company’s pipe-drawing department 2 in April 2012. The project was implemented within the company’s strategic development program aimed at expanding the range of cold-worked tube products.

The new production site is meant for the production of cold-worked tubes with the diameter of 120mm and length of up to 24m; such tubes have never been manufactured in Russia before. Coiled tubing is used for heat-exchange units where liquids and steam are contained under high pressure and great temperature. These conditions mean the tubing must be very strong, thanks to (among other factors) the most suitable number of seams, which is possible due to the use of coiled tubing.

Coordinating the delivery of the shipment has meant the company had to think outside the box, as the goods are very lengthy: a typical railway carriage can only fit a pipe that is up to 13m long. The daunting transportation task was fulfilled thanks to Sinara Pipe Plant’s experience with the transportation of bulky items. The order for EnergoTechProm was forwarded by a special-purpose vehicle, while that for Krasny Kotelschik Taganrog Boiler-Making Plant was shipped on a special platform wagon used for LDP transportation.
