Uralvagonzavod, Bombardier Sign Agreement Package

16 July 2012 (09:45)

On the first day of the International Forum/Exhibition Innoprom 2012, Uralvagonzavod Scientific & Production Corporation and Bombardier signed a number of agreements providing for the setup of a production facility for underground carriages and trams in Russia. The agreement package was signed by Uralvagonzavod Director-General Oleg Sienko, Bombardier Transportation President and Chief Operating Officer André Navarri, and Head of Russian Government Dmitri Medvedev.

The agreements are quite unique, as they provide not only for the transfer of modern production technologies to Russia and training of personnel at Bombardier’s Europe-based plants, but also for the joint design work and organization of production processes. Bombardier has never practiced this kind of cooperation before.

The parties expect to find locations for 50% of future production sites at the first stage of the project already. One of Uralvagonzavod’s production sites will be used for making trams and possibly ultramodern underground carriages.

The most advanced makes from Bombardier’s current product range were chosen as the basic models for the implementation of the agreement. These will be further improved upon to suit specific needs and demands. For one, a number of world famous designers will be involved in the design of the carriages, so their appearance will be tailor-made, which will make it possible to accentuate the specific traits of every customer city.
