Authorities Accuse Serov Ferrous Alloys Works of Soil Contamination
13 February 2012 (09:26)
Sverdlovsk Region Arbitration Court is to consider the claim laid by Rosprirodnadzor’s division in Ural Federal District against Serov Ferrous Alloys Works on February 17, 2012. The plaintiff wants the defendant to pay 18.32m RUR.
According to the files of the case, Rosprirodnadzor’s division insists on the compensation of the damage done to the local soils (an environmentally protected asset) through chemical contamination, unauthorized waste dumping, and cover-up of the soil surface without a permit.
Serov Ferrous Alloys Works reports that the environmental agency inspected the plant for compliance with the environmental legislation of the Russian Federation in April 2011, and the defendant had to face administrative liability then. The plant therefore claims that the punishment has already been inflicted on the enterprise.
