Yekaterinburg Ready with World Cup 2018 Application Portfolio

8 February 2012 (10:21)

First Deputy Mayor of Yekaterinburg Sergey Shvindt coordinated a meeting to check on the progress of Yekaterinburg’s application portfolio for the world football championship in 2018.

Shvindt observed that the portfolio was quite an extensive file whose preparation involved nearly all the divisions of the city council. This is actually a sort of an investment program that gives the reader an idea of what and how much should be invested in the development of the city’s infrastructure to prepare the place for the championship. This means that the portfolio includes sections on the sports and medical facilities, hotels, the transportation network, water, heating, and power supply systems, waste recycling and environmental safety programs, urban development projects, and much else besides.

The official emphasized that preparation for hosing the World Cup implies considerable expenses, so the city budget alone could not suffice. If Yekaterinburg gets chosen as one of the Russian cities to host the football championship of 2018, this application portfolio will make it possible for the city to get the necessary federal budget funding.
