UrBC, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, November 7, 2011. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK)’s quality management system has been successfully audited and recertified for compliance with the international ISO 9001:2008 and ISO/TU 16949:2009 standards as well as with STO Gazprom 9001:2006 standard.
For one week, the auditing committees comprising the experts from the international certification authority TUV NORD CERT and Paritet inspected the performance of the company’s processes aimed at the production of high-quality goods and meeting consumer’s needs. The audit involved nearly all the core divisions and departments of the enterprise. At the final sum-up meeting, TUV NORD CERT ISO 9001 and STO Gazprom chief auditor Vera Shapkina said MMK’s management proved the business was accepting and complying with the obligations related to maintaining a viable quality management system and its continual improvement.
To meet the standards, MMK engages in monitoring and analysis of the processes. According to the company’s PR Department, the quality management system is particularly effective and noticeable in the IT Directorate, the maintenance and repairs center, the Logistics Directorate, and the input materials section.
Ms Shapkina said no incongruities as far as meeting the ISO 9001:2008 and the STO Gazprom standards were concerned were detected in the course of the recertification auditing procedures. This is why the committee suggested that the certifying authority issue a three-year certificate of compliance for MMK and that Gazprom’s certifying body renew the certificate through the next audit in October 2012.
According to TUV NORD CERT ISO/TU 16949 chief auditor Mr. Bure, no incongruities as far as meeting the ISO/TU 16949 standard were concerned were detected either. This standard was actually developed for the car manufacturers and their suppliers. The auditor also pointed to MMK’s investments in the production infrastructure, the personnel’s great skills, and an impressive degree of automation and IT-reliance in the field of production processes as the company’s definite advantages. The enterprise’s production planning system and the analysis and subsequent correction of processes were also praised. Mr. Bure supported the recommendation that TUV NORD CERT provide MMK with a new ISO/TU 16949:2009 compliance certificate.
