7 September 2011 (11:10)

It has recently been reported that the police officers allegedly engaged in some illegitimate activities during their raids and searches at Yekaterinburg-based Tagansky Ryad market; besides, a number of entrepreneurs with businesses based in this market placed their complaints with the regional public prosecution authorities. Therefore Sverdlovsk Region’s Public Prosecutor Yuri Ponomarev ordered that an investigation of the legitimacy of the police officers’ actions be conducted.

An ad hoc committee was set up of prosecution officials and officers from Sverdlovsk Region division of Russia’s Federal Security Service in order to carry out an all-round investigation of all the complaints and applications. Following the investigation, should the actions of police officers from Sverdlovsk Region division of Russia’s Internal Affairs Ministry be found unlawful, the files of the case will be immediately transferred to investigative authorities for criminal lawsuits to be instituted.

The Prosecutor demanded that the administration of Sverdlovsk Region division of Russia’s Internal Affairs Ministry unquestionably adhere to the legislative norms while executing the police officers’ authority.
